The Alumni Association of Shaw College (SCAA) established “Star of Shaw” Award in 2017 to recognise alumni’s achievements and their contributions to society. Awardees are selected by a Selection Committee formed by representatives of the College Board of Trustees, College, and the Board of Directors of SCAA. The awardee for 2025 is Mr Ivan Wong (Electronic Engineering 2004).

Mr Ivan Wong was admitted to CUHK and joined Shaw College in 2001. Talking about university and college life, the most unforgettable memories to Mr Wong were rushing for assignments and group projects, cooking together, and chatting till late at night with a group of close friends. Every time when Mr Wong walked back to the student hostel at night, he could see that every room was lit up, making the student hostel building brightly lit and spectacular. Mr Wong and his friends formed a "cycling team". After finishing their daily tasks, they would ride around the CUHK campus and occasionally rode to Tai Wai for supper, enjoying happy times together.
Apart from the academic knowledge in books, the hostel life at Shaw College was what Mr Wong gained the most from. It taught him how to conduct himself in society, how to communicate and coordinate with others, which was a crucial lesson before he entered the workforce. Living in student hostel also allowed Mr Wong to make his best friend in life and forge the most precious and sincere friendships.
Before graduating from the university, Mr Wong participated in a mentorship programme. His mentor provided him with constructive suggestions and guidance in finding his career path, which brought him life-long benefit. Today, Mr Wong is happy to serve as a mentor, sharing his experiences in the hope of helping fellow students find their own directions.
