Outing: Take a stroll at Tai Po Kau and learn plants thru field sketching

The event will be held at Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve. Led by 2 young professionals who is working in Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium. Participants will get to know some common native plant species of Hong Kong and will be learning basic plant identification skills as well as botanical field sketch. Come and join us!

Date: 12 November 2022 (Saturday)

Time: 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Venue: Tai Po Kau (NOT include transportation)

Fee: Shaw student $100; Shaw staff member, shaw alumni and non-shaw student $250 (include professional tour guiding fee, group personal accident insurance)

Language: Cantonese and English

Ms. Ivy, Wong Hiu Yan

Graduated from CUHK Environmental Science Program, Ivy is currently working in Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium, CUHK. She expertises in botanical illustration and is experienced in organising education programs. Her latest publication is Botanical Illustrated Guide to Hong Kong Native Plants. Mr. Homan, Wang Ho Lam

Graduated from CUHK Environmental Science Program, Homan is currently working in Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium, CUHK. He is interested in plant observation and specimen collection. His research focuses on documentation of fruits and seeds. Homan also received his Master of Environmental Management in HKU. (Instagram: homan_insects)

About the activity :

The event will be held at Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve. Participants will get to know some common native plant species of Hong Kong and will be learning basic plant identification skills as well as botanical field sketch.

Notes to participant :

No prior experience is required. Please bring a A5 sketchbook with hard cover (or something similar which is easy to use in the field), fineliners (0.05 & 0.1 fineliner are recommended), pencil, eraser, ruler, water, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Remarks :

• No eating during the tour.

• Wearing surgical masks at all times.

• Implementing group gathering regulation and maintain proper social distancing.

• Absentees without email notification and medical proof will be requested to pay the full cost for the trip ($250).

• The College will closely monitor the development of the pandemic situation and update participants the latest arrangements.
